My wonderful Dream Girl - 1913
Words by Oliver Morosco, Music by Victor Schertzinger; John Franklin Music Co., New York . As far as I can tell this is the only song lyric ever written by Oliver Morosco, who was a prominent Broadway producer for many years -- 40 shows, including Peg O' My Heart. He later was a film producer in Hollywood. This song is also of interest because it was in the score of another of the failed Broadway follow-ups of the Wizard of Oz, a hit show of 1903, and the Oz author Frank Baum was a co-writer of the book. Note also that the publisher is not one of the customary Broadway houses. The music was the work of Victor Schertzinger, soon to become a leading conductor/composer for film, and the co-writer of several popular hits in the 30's & 40's. The song is a pretty little waltz in the key of F-major -- 32-bar verse and 32-bar chorus, with some harmonic leaps that would characterize the composer's later work. This copy is in good condition except that a former owner fastened the loose page inside to the cover pages with small pieces of black friction tape.
